1.6.1 Development cooperation
The Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV) was set up to advise the government on foreign policy, in particular with respect to human rights, peace and security, development cooperation and European integration. The AIV has four permanent committees covering these areas. These are the Committees on Human Rights (CMR), Peace and Security (CVV), Development Cooperation (COS) and European Integration (CEI).
The RAWOO (Netherlands Development Assistance Research Council) makes recommendations to the government on how research that is funded by the Dutch government for the purpose of fostering development can best be attuned to the needs of developing countries. RAWOO's principal tasks are to issue recommendations regarding research priorities and to put forward proposals for long-term research programmes, and to foster communication among the various parties involved in research for development: researchers, policy-makers and end users, both in the South and in the North.
